Spiros M. & Niovi Constantinides Endowment

The purpose of this endowment is to create a research award for URI students helping to develop the relationship between the University of Rhode Island and Universities in Greece. The award may be used by a URI student for a J-term study project, summer study project or internship, or any other study abroad opportunities in Greece.
The Dean of the College of Environment and Life Sciences will post a call for proposals annually to students and faculty at the University of Rhode Island and to students and faculty attending Colleges and Universities in Greece. A committee of representatives for the College of Environment and Life Sciences, Graduate School of Oceanography and the College of Arts and Sciences will read the proposals submitted and select a recipient.
The recipient can be a student at URI for the aforementioned Colleges or a student from Greece. If a student from URI is selected, they must be working on a URI faculty directed research project in Greece that is in partnership with a Greek professor. If a student from Greece is selected they must be working on a Greek faculty directed project working with a faculty member at URI. Preference will be given to a project that is related to an area of study and research on the natural sea resources of Greece, its shores, beaches and the welfare of its coastal communities.
If no such student or scholar can be found in any given year, that year’s distribution shall be reinvested into the corpus of the endowment fund.
